Beiwe as a Service pricing is based on a combination of a fixed cost and a variable cost. The fixed cost does not depend on the extent or nature of data collection, whereas the variable cost depends entirely on three data collection parameters: number of study subjects, study duration, and average duration of data collection per subject. These costs are generated from operating Beiwe, maintaining the Android and iOS front-end smartphone applications, maintaining the AWS-based back-end system, data collection, storage, and access costs, personnel costs (including initial and continuing support), and the cost of finance and administration. The Beiwe Service Center operates on a non-profit basis and does not generate revenue.
The three data collection parameters have the following meanings. (1) Number of study subjects, which we denote by N, is the total number of individuals from whom you anticipate collecting data in the course of the study. Typical values for N are 50 and 100. (2) Study duration, which we denote by T, is the length of time between the first day of the first subject and the last day of the last subject, with additional time for study set up and data download. Typical values of T are 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months. (3) Average duration of data collection per subject, which we denote by t, is the average length of time that data should be collected for each subject. Typical values of t are 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months.
